Genre Decision
Choosing a genre for our movie was a slightly hard decision. There are many different advantages that come with each genre. With Horror, there were many great aspects, it had many great camera angles such as the low angle, the high angle and tilted angles. It also had establishing scenes that build up tension and bring excitement to a viewer. On the other hand the True Crime genre brings realism. With close-up, extreme close-up shots, dolly movements, handheld shots, and over the shoulder shots, that get the viewer wondering and suspenseful. But ultimately after deep consideration, our group has decided that our genre for our movie will be Thriller. There are many different advantages to the thriller genre, for one the thriller genre is many different genres fused into one. But, one main distinctive characteristic of this genre is a plot twist. Usually in a thriller the point is to thrill the viewer, and the way that movie directors do this with the thriller genre is by adding surprising and unexpected plot twists. They build up connections between the characters which usually ends up into a betrayal of some sort. We as a group feel like this was the best choice that would fit with our pitch: "Four friends on vacation trip, friends plans the trip also plans to kill everyone attending." The thriller genre also grabs the viewers attention with many different shots, such as the eye level shots, point of view shots, and tracking shots. Thriller is known to be a typical "scary" genre so there are a lot of great moving shots that emphasize the scene in a real life scale. We felt like thriller also gave us liberty to use many different sound tools since typically in the genre they use all different sorts of sounds, such as dialogues, ambient sounds, diegetic, non-diegetic, and sound motifs. Lastly in thriller's there are a variety of costumes available which not only makes it easier for us to find types of costumes, it also gives us freedom to do what we really want to do without genre restrictions. Overall we are affirmative with our decision on doing thriller as our genre, and we know that it is the right genre for us to do our movie in.
