Production Blog: Music
Today, my group and I decided that we should contact artists for the rights to their music. We first figured out which songs we were using and then tried to email them. We searched all over the internet to find any contact information possible but there was nothing there. Damaine then decided that this would be the time to ask the teacher for help. When he came back to us with information he said the she told her to direct message them on instagram and if they did not get back to us we would have to use royalty free music. Damaine also informed us that his cousin makes music, so if we ever need anything we could just contact him. We went on a whim and contacted two artists, Kesha and Redfoo. Nicole and I were the ones that actually sent the messages while Pedro and Damaine helped us with what we were going to say. We wanted to approach them very professionally since we are kids and many adults don't take high schoolers seriously. We informed them that we were Cambridge students and wanted to use their music for a film we were making and would absolutely appreciate it. We are very skeptical because they are music artists that have a name for themselves and would most likely not text high schoolers back but we are still hopeful. We wanted to use their songs because it goes with the mood for the scenes they are incorporated in. My group and I all know these songs since we grew up listening to them. The songs are still very popular to this day and we are very excited to hopefully use them. Just in case neither one of these artists get back to us, we have two back up plans. One plan is to potentially use Damaine's cousins music. Since this is Damaine's cousin he would be able to get back to us in ample time and let us know if we can use his music or not. He has a variety of songs that we can use so it would not be a problem choosing one that could best fit our film. The second option is to potentially use one of our classmates music. Damaine knows someone that goes to our school that makes music that we could possibly borrow for our film. It would be easy for us to contact him since he does go to the same school as us and we see him a lot during the week. It will also be easy to contact him since we either have his number or a form of social media.
